XCargo logistics planning software can now calculate CO2 and other transport-related emissions directly in Microsoft Excel. The newest version XCargo 4.5 is available at LOCOM Software as of August 2009. It provides reliable data on the emissions caused by specific transports in an enterprise and how to reduce them. The newest version also includes a toll check for 2008/2009.
XCargo's special emissions function enables companies to measure the carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon, and sulfur dioxide emissions caused by their transports at all levels of transport activity. Competitive advantages gained by climate sensitive transports are supportable by genuine facts. "Proof of emissions reduction is becoming ever more important in logistics and growing in demand by our clients" reports Alexander Siffling, account manager at LOCOM Software.
Besides evaluating the status quo, XCargo's emission function calculates emissions for structurally optimized transports. "Overall savings in transport costs and emission reduction are often tandem effects" explains Juergen Schulz, director at LOCOM Consulting. "Examining both factors at once makes the most of all potentials and enables reasoned decisions."
LOCOM Software developed emissions calculation in cooperation with LOCOM Consulting that has already put it to the test. Logistics experts use XCargo to calculate and evaluate costs and emissions simultaneously and identify alternative transport methods and climate sensitive potentials.
Detailed Emission Calculation
In Microsoft Excel XCargo software calculates emissions caused by road transports based on data related to orders and transports. Vehicle type, tons moved, vehicle capacity efficiency, Euro norms, and the distance traveled are all factors in this process. All CO2 equivalents are followed-up in XCargo 4.5.
An additional "Green Logistics" module enables companies to calculate 14 further types of emissions caused by their transports. Special Excel formulas and automatic mass data evaluation are available. Consolidated transports may also be examined in terms of emissions caused and the values found can be specified for each individual commission. Rail, sea, and air freight emissions can also be calculated and specified.
The Handbook for Emission Factors, Version 2.1 of the Berlin Federal Office for the Environment is used to calculate emissions. This published standard facilitates reliable pollutant calculation and comparison.
Focus on Toll Check 2009
In addition, XCargo's newest version calculates and compares toll costs for 2008 and 2009. Based on transport data, XCargo determines the number of expressway kilometers subject to tolls as specified by the Euro norm and the number of axles. This creates a verifiable fundament of data for estimating prices, preparing negotiation papers, and budget planning.
